Meat Meat Meat (Cross Post from my other blog!)

So, in this house, we always know when there is a sale on meat. This week, it was ground beef for 1.17 a lb. That isn't the best I have ever found, but it is darn good! I ended up with 15 lbs of meat total between two stores that had it on sale.

Here is what we did.

I browned 5 lbs of meat with tomatoes, onions and spices to make a taco meat mix. Once it was browned, I let it cool and divided it into three bags, which when added into a meal with beans, lettuce and all the other fixins will make tacos for our five kids who eat (baby doesn't) and the two of us. 3 meals down!

I took another 2.5 lbs and started a crock pot meatloaf, still cooking as I type. I mixed it with a cup of spaghetti sauce, some fresh garlic, a dash of chili powder(trust me on this one) and salt / pepper. Toss in some bread crumbs, blend with some onion.....and place in a foil lined crock pot on low for 8 hours. I plan to split this in two for two meals, since it is quite large! I also added some chopped carrot this time to sneak some veggies in it! 2 more meals down!

Then I took another 2.5 lb and made 16 hamburger patties. They are small, because we have young kids. This will get us another 2 meals, paired with some sweet potatoe fries and we are good! 2 more meals down!

So far, we have 7 meals made and frozen. Now on to the chili. I took 1.5 lb of meat and browned it with onion and garic, and then added all my chili fixin's. After I added it all, and a ton of fresh roma's from another sale this weekend, I had two big ole' batches of chili! That is another 2 meals! So we have 9 down!

So, what did I do with the other 4 lbs? Well, I split it into 2 and froze it:) I am not sure what project that will turn into. Possibly enchiladas? Or even a cassarole with potato and cheese? Who knows!

I will be back to post the details of each meal I made and what I plan to add to it, along with the cost work up. Just getting my feet wet for the evening!
